Before the project

3 Being a volunteer means helping others and learning more about the world. - you have to be aware of where you are going and for how long. You have to be prepared for the journey, you should not choose the first project you see, especially if you are not sure about it.
- Find more information about the specifics of the country, region and organization you are going to.
- Read everything about the country you’re going to (culture, history, food, what you should and shouldn’t do).
- Contact the organization in the host country.
- Take everything lightly and with humor!
- Be prepared for crazy situations.
- Open up to the world and have fun!
During the project
- Don’t forget your initial motivation. In fact, time passes very quickly. If you have an idea, implement it!
- Create new and interesting projects not only for yourself, but also for the community.
- be proactive and organized.
- Be friendly, outgoing, become part of the local community.
- Be ready to face problems – have patience, try to find compromise in everything!
- Be yourself! Don’t pretend to be another person. Don’t try to integrate into your local environment right away. Be honest with people, show what you can do. People will understand you and accept you no matter what.
- Don’t worry about the little things.
- Don’t be afraid and step out of your comfort zone – that’s the only way you’ll learn something.
- Appreciate the peculiarities of another culture and respect its diversity.
- Dive into a new world! Don’t waste your time hanging out at home! Get to know the locals, make new friends!
